“These people are dangerous Syd,” Shelly said when herself, Sydney and Brittany were in the privacy of Sydney’s room. “Not once did you mention anything about murder.” she paced the room, replaying in her mind what Judas had said. “This is the type of insurance that insures your life.”

“I ain’t feeling this either,” Brittany sucked her teeth and sat down on the edge of the bed.

“Calm down, shit! Nobody said anything about murder, all we gotta do is find this Smiley, retrieve his stash, and hand it back to Judas at the end of the night.” Sydney tried to explain, whilst reading the instructions Judas had given her in the other room.

“You did hear what happened to the last collector’s right?” Shelly asked.

“No Shelly and neither did you.” Sydney replied. She knew Shelly was nervous, hell, she was nervous too.

“I don’t like the sound of this Syd. You know men don’t like people fucking with their money.” Shelly said. But

Kaylen was ready to put in work. He cared nothing for the love that Sydney felt for the man he’d deemed had fooled them all. Sitting back and watching his outer persona attract a vulture sickened him. He’d watched his father through Sydney’s eyes build an upstanding, family-orientated empire, alongside a flock of hard-working members of the community that ordained respect. It was devastating for Kaylen to see everything his father worked for destroyed, and his family name tarnished along with it. Like his father, hustling was in his blood, and with his older brother, and sister out the game now was his time to do his thing, and have the Henderson name cemented back in the hood. Sydney’s own insecurities and lack of self-esteem found Kaylen carrying her. He was with her when she escaped from Cleverfield Mental Home, and he was with her now whilst she contemplated her next move. He knew Sydney loved Judas, and half believed he felt the same. He’d listened to their pillow talk, and heard them share their dreams, yet there was still something snaky about him, something he hadn’t managed put his finger on until Sydney had innocently answered a much awaited phone call. Usually Kaylen confided in Shelly, and respected her advice. She was sincere in her opinions and held no judgment towards either the situation, or person in their chosen topic. But even Shelly wouldn’t understand how Sydney’s love for Judas could turn into deceit over night. She had to come clean. Sydney had to come, as clean, as it was ever going to get between the trio and the hidden three.

“What you thinking about?” Brittany asked Sydney snapping her out of her thoughts. She watched as Sydney pulled her hair back into a pony tail, and narrowed her brows as if she was transfixing into someone else. Sydney arched her back to stretch, and then clicked her fingers like a grown man before taking a seat next to Shelly on the bed.

“I wanna show you both something.” She began, “Something that got me through a lot of tough nights in Cleverfield.
